A reliable monitor cable is important for anyone trying to transmit a video signal. The Rosewill RCW-802 VGA cable is shielded to prevent interference, features molded connectors for a better fit and a flexible PVC jacket. However, Rosewill only offers three different length options, and the company's customer support could use some improvements. Nonetheless, this is still one of the top ten best VGA cables we encountered in our research.

One of the standout features of the Rosewill RCW-802 VGA cable is the fact that it has triple shielding. All of the other cables in our review only featured double shielding or single shielding. This means that you'll have even more protection against electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI) for a pure, interrupted video signal.

A ferrite bead is also included on each end of the cable. These cylindrical bumps near the connector are an extra barrier against interference. They work as shields to block and collect EMI and RFI from your computer, projector, television or whatever else the cord may be plugged into. The interference is then transformed into small amounts of heat and dissipated throughout the ferrite core.

However, this VGA only supports screen resolutions up to 1024 x 768 pixels. This is only XGA, whereas other cables we found in our review could support resolutions of WXGA (1280 x 768 pixels), UXGA (1600 x 1200 pixels), WUXGA (1680 x 1050 pixels) and even QXGA (2048 x 1536 pixels). Since it does not support higher resolution imagery, this VGA cable may not give you the clear, crisp picture that your monitor might be able to display with another cable.

It is disappointing that this Rosewill VGA cable is only available in three different lengths. Other products that we reviewed had up to 10 different lengths. You can get this VGA cable in lengths of 6 feet, 10 feet and 15 feet. This may work with standard computer-to-monitor setups, but it may not accommodate those special circumstances where your video source is further away from the monitor.

The FAQs page on the Rosewill website is fairly easy to navigate. You just narrow down your categories until you get to the product you're looking for. There were not any specific questions for this particular VGA cable, but it was still a helpful tool. They do not offer live chat support and the warranty on this product is only for one year, whereas most of the other monitor cables we reviewed had a lifetime guarantee.

We contacted their customer service by email with some questions regarding this monitor cable, but did not receive a response until almost a month later. They let us know they were having "email problems" and then answered all of our questions. It was a slow reply, but it was a thorough reply.

Summary:

Even though this VGA cable isn't as impressive as many of the other ones, it still performs the basic function of any good monitor: transferring a video signal from your source to your display. It is triple shielded and features ferrite beads, so it will be protected against any ghosting or static caused by electromagnetic interference. If your monitor only uses a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, then the Rosewill RCW-802 may be the perfect choice for you.
