Cables to Go offers a variety of different types of cords and cables on their website. The Cables to Go Economy VGA cable is an easy way to connect your computer to your monitor. However, it does not support high-resolution images, and it has less shielding than many of the other VGA cables we reviewed. If you're looking for a VGA cable from a reliable manufacturer that doesn't need to transmit a high-definition video signal, then this may be the right cable for you.

High-definition includes display resolutions above 1280 x 720 pixels. This VGA cable only supports VGA and SVGA. SVGA can support a maximum display resolution of only 800 x 600 pixels. Your monitor is only as good as your connection to your computer, so the Cables to Go Economy cable won't satisfy users whose monitors are capable of displaying resolutions of WXGA (1280 x 768 pixels), UXGA (1600 x 1200 pixels), WUXGA (1680 x 1050 pixels) and even QXGA (2048 x 1536 pixels).

Shielding is a very important feature for any cable transmitting a signal. Without proper shielding, interference from other electrical devices can cause ghosting or pixilation. This VGA cable uses a foil shield to protect the video signal from electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI). While any shielding is good, many of the other cables we reviewed had multiple layers, providing extra protection and helping to keep the signal pure and uninterrupted.

This VGA cable features the standard HD15 male connectors and a flexible PVC jacket. It also is RoHS compliant, which means no hazardous materials, such as mercury, lead and cadmium, were used to manufacture this product. This can help give you the peace of mind that your purchase will not harm the environment.

Cables to Go only offers their Economy VGA cable in three different lengths: 6 feet, 10 feet and 15 feet. While this is significantly fewer than many of the other cables we reviewed, these lengths should work for the majority of computer-to-monitor arrangements – after all, not many people have their computer more than 15 feet away from their monitor. However, if you're trying to connect a projector to a receiver, or a computer to your television, then the limited lengths could be a problem.

If you're going to contact Cables to Go, we recommend using their live chat feature. We emailed them some questions about this monitor cable and did not get a response. After waiting eight days, we finally decided to chat with a customer support representative, and they were very helpful and informative. You can also contact customer service by phone.

Summary:

This monitor cable is the lesser of the Cables to Go cables we encountered in our review; however, it is still a good way to connect a computer to a low-resolution monitor. It does have special features like molded connectors and extra long thumbscrews for a snug fit to the connector, but the Cables to Go Economy VGA cable lacks some key features that would help it be more useful.
