A monitor cable is the primary cable responsible for transferring a video signal from the source to the display screen. The Cables to Go CMG-Rated VGA cable has the smallest diameter of any monitor cable in our review, and it's one of the few we found that is rated for in-wall use. However, the maximum screen resolution supported by this VGA cable is only average. Nonetheless, this is one of the top ten best monitor cables we reviewed.

American Wire Gauge (AWG) is the measurement of how thick a wire is. A larger number means that the wire is smaller in diameter. The Cables to Go CMG-Rated VGA cable has an AWG rating of 30, whereas the rest of the VGA cables in our review have an AWG rating of 28. While a smaller wire is easier to hide and manipulate, it can also mean greater resistance to a current.

This cable supports VGA resolutions (640 x 480 pixels), SVGA resolutions (800 x 600 pixels), XGA resolutions (1024 x 768 pixels) and SXGA resolutions (1280 x 1024 pixels). Since this cable doesn't support a maximum screen resolution of higher than SXGA, it rated lower than other VGA cables in our review that can support UXGA (1600 x 1200), WUXGA (1920 x 1200) and even QXGA (2048 x 1536) resolutions. However, many people don't have a monitor that uses such high-resolution images; for most users the display resolutions this cable supports will be sufficient.

As previously mentioned, this Cables to Go CMG-Rated VGA cable is rated for in-wall use. This means that you can run the VGA cable through the wall instead of having it dangle from the ceiling or wall. Cables that are rated for in-wall use are usually more fire-resistant than regular cables.

Length Options:

You can get a monitor cable in the following lengths: 3 feet, 6 feet, 10 feet, 12 feet, 15 feet, 25 feet, 35 feet, 50 feet and 75 feet. This isn't the widest range of length options that we encountered in our review, but it enough to satisfy the majority of computer or projector setups.

We first contacted Cables to Go through their email support system. Shortly after we sent our email, we received an automated reply letting us know that they'd received our inquiry. They also said "Most emails receive a response within 24 hours." After eight days of waiting for that response, we finally used their live chat feature. The customer support representative answered all of our questions and even sent us a helpful email with additional information.

While this cable doesn't support a very high resolution, it is a slim VGA cable that is rated for in-wall use, so it is perfect for those who want to keep their video cable out of sight. If you have any questions regarding your cable, we recommend using Cables to Go's live chat feature instead of their email for a quicker response. Overall, we were quite satisfied with the Cables to Go CMG-Rated monitor cable.
