Many of us take our monitor cable for granted. However, a VGA cable can make the difference between a crisp, clear image and blurry, poor-quality picture. The Belkin F2N028-GLD is a well-constructed VGA cable made with high-quality materials. However, it doesn’t support high-resolution images and it is only available in one length option. Because of these limitations, this is the least impressive VGA cable we found in our review, but it is still one of the top ten best VGA cables available.

One of the standout features of the Belkin F2N028-GLD is the 24-karat gold-plated connectors on each end. Gold is an excellent conductor of electricity, and it is also resistant to corrosion. Gold plating is a very desirable trait in almost any cable because it helps ensure a steady signal.

The Belkin F2N028-GLD monitor cable has a number of other features to help ensure a solid connection. It has molded strain relief on the connectors to help prevent any damage. There are also oversized ergonomic thumbscrews on each of the male HDDB15 connectors to enable a sturdy hold on the VGA port. Additionally, this Belkin cable also has an aluminum undermold shield to protect against electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI).

SVGA is the maximum resolution this Belkin F2N028-GLD VGA cable will support. SVGA is only 800 x 600 pixels. Modern monitors feature WXGA (1280 x 768 pixels), UXGA (1600 x 1200 pixels), WUXGA (1680 x 1050 pixels), QXGA (2048 x 1536 pixels) display resolutions, and some can even display higher. If you're using this cable with a high-resolution monitor, then you won't get the best image possible.

As previously mentioned, this Belkin VGA cable is only available in one length: 6 feet. This should be plenty of length for a standard PC-to-monitor arrangement, but this one length constitutes far fewer options than any of the other monitor cables we reviewed. Some people may need longer cables for a projector-to-DVD setup, for example, and other people won't want all the extra slack if their PC and monitor are close together. This lack of variety was disappointing.

On the surface, the Belkin website looks to have everything you'd want in customer support. A lifetime warranty covers the VGA cable and you can get help through phone, email or live chat. However, you have to create an account and log in to ask a question, which is annoying, and the FAQs page was fairly general. We sent an email with some questions to Belkin and did not receive a response, so we used their live chat feature, where the representative couldn't answer our questions and advised us to call the company.
