Selecting the right monitor cable makes all the difference between a strong, solid video signal and a pixilated, low-quality video signal. The AMC CSV6MM VGA cable is available in many different lengths and features multi-layered protection against interference. However, this VGA cable is unable to support high-resolution images and their customer support team needs improvement. This is a good cable to connect a low-resolution source to a low-resolution screen.
The AMC CSV6MM VGA cable can support a maximum screen resolution of only SVGA – this equates to approximately 800 x 600 pixels. This number may seem impressive until you know that computer monitors can support WXGA (1280 x 768 pixels), UXGA (1600 x 1200 pixels), WUXGA (1680 x 1050 pixels) and QXGA (2048 x 1536 pixels) display resolutions. With computer monitor technology rapidly improving and increasing, SVGA is quickly becoming less relevant.
Proper shielding in a VGA cable is important to ensure video signal integrity. The AMC CSV6MM features double-shielded wires surrounded by a flexible PVC jacket. This double-shielded construction should help prevent any electromagnetic interference (EMI) or radio frequency interference (RFI) that may occur. You can also purchase this cable with ferrites, which are cylindrical beads on each end of the VGA cable. Ferrite beads provide extra protection against interference and they will help keep your video signal pure and uninterrupted.
We were quite pleased with the different length options available. This AMC VGA cable is available in eight different lengths: 3 feet, 6 feet, 10 feet, 15 feet, 25 feet, 50 feet, 75 feet and 100 feet. Most people won't need lengths under three feet or video cables over 100 feet long. This variety of lengths should suit almost any computer-to-monitor setup and will probably even work with most projector-to-DVD player setups.
When you purchase a product, it is important that the manufacturer is readily available to answer questions and resolve problems. Unfortunately, the AMC site is not very user-friendly. It is confusing to navigate and gives minimal information about their products. We were also unable to find a page with frequently asked questions and answers. You can contact customer support by telephone or by email. They do not offer a live chat feature.
We wrote AMC an email with some questions regarding this VGA cable, but we received no response. Because they didn't respond, we were unable to determine if this cable was RoHS compliant and if the connectors feature nickel-plating. They also did not specify any sort of warranty on this monitor cable, which is unusual and does not inspire confidence. We are disappointed by AMC's lack of customer support and lack of information on their website.
The double shielding and wide variety of length options make this VGA cable an attractive option for purchase. However, it is unable to support the high-resolution imagery that modern monitors are capable of displaying. AMC also needs to improve their customer support. There are other, better options available, but if you have a low-resolution monitor then the AMC CSV6MM will suit your needs.
Pros
This VGA cable features double shielding for extra protection against interference.
Cons
Their customer support is lacking and they don't specify a warranty length, if any.
The AMC CSV6MM is available in a variety of lengths but lacks some key features.
